This program covers a broad range of study including

  • Basic art theory

Studies focus on a variety of artistic disciplines. Different concepts are introduced by giving students tangible, personal experiences in art production, art criticism, art history and the philosophy of art (aesthetics).

All artistic disciplines are exploratory, personal, and expressive. All artists become inspired and motivated by the choice of materials and canvasses.

  • Drawing

Students will learn the elements and principles of drawing while also discovering the major artists of influence.

Students will draw in sketchbooks. They’ll draw on wood and paper. They’ll even draw on the walls. They will draw with graphite, charcoal, conte, pastels, and more.

They will study, experiment with, and practice portrait drawing, sketching, abstract, and still life.

  • Painting

The principles, practices, and traditions of painting will be explored, and students will also learn about the Masters of the discipline.

Students will paint on canvas, using acrylics, watercolours and paint sticks. They will explore the genres of landscape, portrait, abstract, and still life painting.

Students will keep a sketchbook and get weekly homework assignments.

What parents are saying

“ I’m so happy that we found Barbara, as my daughter’s Art teacher. Barbara has everything we have been looking for.

Barbara is patient and talented, and she teaches techniques and gives my daughter a small amount of homework to practice. She is also open-minded and lets my daughter being creative in her own way. Every week, she lends a couple of art books for my daughter to read to expand her art language and knowledge. Barbara’s studio is such a nice place: it’s artistic, clean and well organized. My daughter looks forward to her lessons with Barbara. I’m glad that it’s a lesson that she wants to do, and not one I have to force her to do!
